In 2023, 5 environmental leaders were arrested, including ADES’ executive director, Antonio Pacheco. The news hit the team and the community like an earthquake, but they had to make a choice: shut down or go on? The team chose to go on, and since then ADES has focused on developing projects and actions led by women, with the support of men from the community, aimed at continuing the legacy of fighting for their land and the freedom of their wrongly imprisoned colleagues.
